Still Life

I love nature. I especially love watching animals--and I have a special weakness for birds. Along the way, I manage to get a pic or two that I like. Here they are!

BIRDS

We were walking along the beach, and noticed this bird. It was small and far away, but I wanted to capture it. Once I located it in my viewfinder, I saw that it was worth it! What a beautiful bird.

RODENTS
Specifically, adorable squirrels.

Bounding squirrel in Washington D.C., at Lafayette Park. Adorable.

A squirrel just begging for its picture to be taken in Williamsburg, Virginia.

I think that I like squirrels... What do you think? ;)

 SOUTH CAROLINIAN SWAMP CREATURES

Alligators in South Carolina! Alligators are awesome... They get a bum rap. These ones were sunning on planks in the middle of an old rice plantation.

A snowy egret, I believe this is. Or this might simple be an egret (it depends on the size of the bird). Whatever it is, it's pretty.

Blue Heron. There was a book I read that involved a blue heron in elementary school, and I decided that I LOVED them. Then I studied ornithology in middle school and realized that they looked nothing like I had imagined them... But despite my ornithology course, I think this might have been the first real, up-close-and-personal blue heron that I ever saw. It might not be small and lithe, but it is cool!

Bluebottle!

Take it back, I think the black-beaked, smaller ones are the snowy egrets. They were all piled up together in a tree. It was an amazing sight.
