The Capital

The Capital is an amazing, gorgeous building! It's, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful buildings in all of D.C. You might be wondering how I've dedicated a whole post to the pictures of the Capital, but once you've been there, you'll see.  The Capital building is simply too photogenic to escape without having 5 bajillion newly- acquired photos on your memory disk.

We started walking towards the Capital from the National Mall, which leads you to the back of the building. You would never know, because the back is gorgeous enough to be the front.

Approaching the Capital while walking down the National Mall.

The backside of the Capital building. (See? It's downright purty.)

What's a gorgeous government building without a beautiful, billowing American flag?

One more look at the backside of this building. :)

Walking around the Capital to the front side...

Arriving at the front of the Capital! And it has... (//drumroll please)... another flag!
How many flags does this building have??
(I believe this is number 3)

Gorgeous architectural detailing on the dome.

And.... the whole front! With a killer sky. Thanks for cooperating, clouds! (:

But DC has more beauty to share yet! The rest is coming soon :)

Alexandria, Virginia

I don't know about you, but I have a serious weakness for brick buildings. You might even call it a fatal flaw. And when I went to Alexandria (which is just a little ways outside of D.C.), I nearly died. It's gorgeous. Not only does it have brick, it has clapboard, wooden window shutters, lamposts, lanterns, and a cobblestone street. It's heavenly.

The City Hall.

An amazingly beautiful building... A church, maybe?

Yup, another brick building. I already warned you-- I'm obsessed.
This building is particularly cool because apparently Washington and
some other super-important early American heroes and founding founders
used to go to this tavern a lot.

Not only is it brick... It has teal, wooden shutters! I could have fainted in delight right then.

Brick and patriotic. This place got my approval super fast. :)

Okay, look, look! The darling teal door, with the lit, real-flame lanterns that frame the doorway? . . . Completely irresistible.

If you're not drooling by now, there is something seriously wrong with you ;)

Someone lives in this amazing place. Hard to fathom. It's too pretty to live in... Though I think I would be willing to give it a shot haha.

And just to top it off... Here's a cobblestone street and an ivy-covered brick wall! I disagree that Heaven is paved in gold. I think it's paved in cobblestone and that the pearly gates are covered in ivy! Just kidding... but a nice fantasy thought! :)

And then... The visitor at Alexandria approaches Christ's Church, where Washington himself attended. Not only is it amazingly beautiful, it's historical! I doubt it could get better than that.

And note the brick courtyard flooring. Yum.

Final glimpses at the town....

And on to the rest of D.C.

Coming soon!
